This is a welcome addition to Medtrade, which has always had a strong emphasis on showcasing the latest in wound care, incontinence and ostomy products."

Smart Answers for Specialized Treatment

The debut of the Wound Care Symposium will offer attendees at Medtrade '97 a comprehensive and academic look at the importance of becoming educated on advancements in wound care and treatment. Hosted by Podiatric Wound Consultant Dr.Tamara D. Fishman, elements of the program will include the following principles and practices of wound care management:

  1. Diabetic Foot Care Principles and Management
  2. Appropriate Debridement Techniques for Extremity Ulcers
  3. Moist Wound Healing Concepts/Products
  4. Wound Assessment and Physical Therapy
  5. Etiologies and Management of Wound Care

According to medical studies, 1.5 - 4 million patients suffer from chronic, non-healing wounds. Other studies outline that the cost of a single pressure wound can be as high as $50,000 for treatment. Taking part in Dr. Fishman's program, attendees will receive guidance on the staging of wounds, prevention and treatment of ulcers, strategies for saving the diabetic foot, case studies and breakthroughs in research.

"This symposium will offer attending healthcare professionals the knowledge to go back to their practice and facilities, and improve their own systems of wound management," explains Dr. Fishman. "Wound care is one of the fastest growing markets. With so many technological innovations, it is often hard for practitioners to stay informed of the latest applications."

In addition, SEMCO Productions will provide extra signage and exhibit information recognizing the wound care products that are present on the show floor.

Concludes Simmering, "This symposium will expand upon one of the larger categories of products showcased here at Medtrade. Through a conscious effort to offer more and more related educational programs, we are excited to add this to the '97 event."
